Red Eye of Despair or Romantic Jealousy Desolation
The work relates formally to the ancient mythology. However, it is rather a reflection on the universal subject of romantic jealousy, disloyalty, betrayal, and infidelity. Greek folklore might look like a very narrow subject of contemplation. Nevertheless, Greek culture brings a lot more to the modern world than we might want to appreciate. Although, we often associate a myth with ancient system of make-belief religions even myth is actually a set of stories that is significant to cultural understanding. The Gods and Goddesses of ancient times were no strangers to romantic jealousy. God Phthonos was the incarnate spirit of envy, particularly concerned with the jealous passion of love. His female counterpart of jealous retribution was goddess Nemesis.
I would not deliberately quote a particular myth of romantic jealousy from the Greek or Roman mythology. There are plenty of stories about this subject in books. Instead, imagine that you are ready to have a nice, relaxing glass of fine-vine, getting set to enjoy its taste, color, and flavour. But instead, one cuts lip on a sharp edge of broken glass. All the feelings of expectation, suspense, and anticipation of joy would be thrown to the wind momentarily. Those feeling would be replaced by bitterness, desolation, and taste of blood on your lips. I have tried to capture this emotion of despair, this moment of impulsive misery and applied it to the subject of true love. Love has been suddenly spoiled by jealousy, suspicion, and mistrusts. The treacherous feeling of jealousy consumes one’s heart, shattering and replacing all other sentiments of love such as affection, worshiping, and adoration. Such feeling renders a person blind. It is similar to a supernova exploding in one’s mind and eclipsing all other stars. One cannot see any more anything virtuous in the subject of one’s affection. The angelic wings of love shattered away, and the image of body becomes a desolated, headless mannequin shell. There is a cold darkness coming to replace light and to devour one’s soul. It is leaving only a red eye of despair to guide you through the desolation of nightfall.
The green eye of jealousy is not green when it comes to love, it is definitely red. Romantic jealousy is experienced after something threatening to one's relationship. Jealousy is a reaction to a perceived threat, real or imagined. In phycology, romantic jealousy defined as a complex of thoughts, feelings, and actions which follow threats to self-esteem. This feeling involve elements of variety of emotions such as anger, despair, and desolation. Jealousy lies somewhere in the gray area between sanity and madness. An individual experiencing jealousy may engage in a number of behaviors and self-distracting thought. They are extreme and unusual, involve loss of control, and result in a sense of going mad. Anyone who has experienced intense jealousy is well aware of its power and potential destructiveness. At the beginning of relationship we look for a person who will fit our own romantic expectation. When we meet such a person, we project our internalized image onto him or her. That is why, when we fall in love, we often feel closeness like if we knew this person all our life. This is also why we are so often stunned after the obsession is over. It is like if we didn't see the person, only the projection of our own romantic image.
