Eye of the Hurricane or Silence is Deceitful-2
When your world is devastated by a hurricane, the only option is to rebuild from the ground up, a process that may span years. To onlookers from a distance, it appears as a heart-wrenching tragedy. Yet, here's one of life's hidden secrets—out of destruction emerges youth and growth. You become the first drop of rain in a hurricane. If you possess fire in your blood and a hurricane in your bones, don't confine yourself within a birdcage. In the blink of an eye, you'll shatter that trivial enclosure around your beautifully carefree spirit. If life knocks the wind out of you one day, rise up and choose to transform into the hurricane.
The sentiments expressed may resemble poetry, but it's not a guide to purposelessly drive oneself into madness.
As for the artwork itself, it's part of a series I informally refer to as "jaws." The initial piece, a painting from about 30 years ago, used jaws as a symbol of danger, threat, and anxiety. The recurring theme in my work has puzzled me—I've never been prone to fits of uncontrollable rage. Yet, this conceptual motif has lingered subconsciously for quite some time. It might be an overcompensation of reality, a reflection of certain hard-rock music tracks, or perhaps an echo of the powerful Hurricane Irma I experienced in Naples, Florida, in 2017.
