Noah's Ark or Delusion of Grandeur

Delusion of Grandeur is an illusion of exaggerated confidence. In real life we come across people who overestimate their abilities and powers every day – the less skill a person has, in fact, the more chances they will be convinced in their importance and knowledge. Building the Noah’s Ark and saving the world life might be considered by some as an example of overinflated confidence of one’s abilities. Saving and preserving the mankind spirituality might be seen as a similar task. The image is a tribute to those who believe in one’s aptitude to change things no matter how grandiose or illusive they are.

The wooden remains of what is to be believed the famous biblical vessel – the Noah’s Ark – were recently found in eastern Turkey on Mount Ararat. Chinese and Turkish evangelists, responsible for this discovery, claim it to be 4,800 years old which, according to the Bible, proves its authenticity. The biblical story has it that Noah's Ark is the unprecedentedly huge vessel – approximately 450 feet (137 metres) long - built to save two of every animal species and Noah’s family at the times of a cataclysmic flood. This flood was considered by God as a capital punishment for the mankind because of its utter corruption. The only indication of the Ark’s final resting point we can find in Genesis 8:4 where it says that the Ark came to rest "in the mountains of Ararat." Ark searchers have been unsuccessfully trying to locate the Ark for a very long time, and even this latest discovery is considered by reputable archaeologists as a hoax.

In psychiatry, however, Delusion of Grandeur or similar false beliefs and delusions have a pathological tinge. Delusions can be a part of a serious neurological or mental condition. They are a very important tool in diagnosing specific psychotic disorders, especially schizophrenia.
