The Last Wave or Fighting the Giants, maritime sailboat surrealism
Life is very interesting... in the end, some of your ultimate failures, might become your biggest achievements. Are you going down in style? Fighting personal giants such as fear, insecurity, or addictions is the quest we all endure during our life journey. Every now and then hopes of conquering anything are looking rather slim at best. Sometimes, it feels that the last wave will end finally all your miseries for good. However, in any of the most desperate situation there is a chance of breaking through. And even your failure might be just one of turning stones only, one of new beginnings.
Through a re-joining with our inner self, we can re-establish a feeling of fullness, remain in harmony, and overcome any obstacles. When we understand how to break free from destructive thoughts, and deceptive desires, and become anchored in the unchanging, then life opens to dramatic transformations and endless possibilities. When everything seems like total waste of efforts, when everything seems like only an uphill struggle, just think of the view from the top.
I have been always fascinated by tall ships. I believe they are one of the greatest engineering achievements of humanity. I used this baroque style galleon, rather fragile and unbalanced, to depict an ultimate struggle, a hopeless attempt to succeed in a journey through the high seas. It might never reach its destination, but one doesn't discover new lands without consenting to lose sight of the shore for a very long time.
The sea... I have always remembered it, I reminisce and love any of its conditions. I love its wilderness, the smell of the wind, the taste of salt on my lips. I love the feelings that it gives - danger, risk, joy, vista. Emotional saturation of a sea travel might be compared only with reading an adventure novel. What can one do if you have a romantic seaman's soul, but you only walk on the shore’s sand? Life of a sailor is a special embodiment. Man is never so close to death as been on a ship in the high seas. No wonder the ancient proverb said that people are divided into three categories: the living, the dead and those who trevel the seas.
"I am not bound to win, but I am bound to be true. I am not bound to succeed, but I am bound to live up to what light I have." Abraham Lincoln
"There are only two ways to live your life. One is though nothing is a miracle. The other is though everything is a miracle. In the middle of difficulty lies opportunity." Albert Einstein.
