Rammstein or Neue Deutsche Harte
According to Rammstein, which performs songs generally in German, 99% of the people don't understand song’s lyrics, that is why one have to come up with something dramatic and spectacular in order to keep the audience interested. I think this principle might be applied to surrealist visual arts as well. We too try to keep viewers occupied by implementing visual paradoxes and effects that make the communication messages are easy to comprehend. This work is a modified version the previous pictures: Along Ruined Soul and Expiatory Temple. The work is mostly a derivative version of Rene Magritte or Salvador’s imagery with some Victor Vasarely’s type experimentation; however, it has its own unique overtones. I do consider this work as unfinished, but I want posting it here instead of keeping it in the junk folder. The picture has actually nothing to do with the well-known German band Rammstein. I made it for the new realise of the German band Down of Destiny. The band however, has decided to employ another image design. Nevertheless, I nicknamed the image file ’Rammstein’ during the pre-production design in order to identify it as something that is Germans related. At the end the surreal image looked like something that Rammstein could use for illustrating its music style Neue Deutsche Härte. Therefore, I have decided to leave the temporary name as the image title. I just want to be clear that the picture is not the band dedication, but merely a reflection.
Neue Deutsche Härte music term was designed by the German media and describes a trend that is influenced by hard rock, goth metal, and alternative uniting it with elements of gothic and electronic techno. I guess it would be appropriate to mention Rammstein here for those who are not familiar with their triumphs. They are widely accepted as one of the starters of Neue Deutsche Härte and they are the genre's most popular band, which achieved a worldwide fame. Rammstein's shows are earning them awards from many countries and are famous for their theatrics and pyrotechnic tricks. Among other literary things, Rammstein uses lyrics of classical German literature, such as Wolfgang Goethe and other famous poems.
Some info: Down of Destiny is a relatively new band (2005) that has already realised three studio albums, CDs. They used one of my neo surrealistic images Dreams of Flying for the cover of their second album Rebellion in Heaven (2008). It is Power Metal music which incorporates elements of thrash, gothic and death metal. Power metal is greatly fixated on the vocalist, with clear vocals being much more prevalent and it is inspired by Ian Gillan, Rob Halford and others classics. This music genre is popular in Europe; often it incorporates forms of classical and folk music. The genre has become one of the most widespread metal subgenres, and has many bands. Dawn of Destiny supported the renowned USA Band House Of Lords on their European Tour.
