Stormbringer was the vinyl album by the legendary rock band Deep Purple. I remember this name from my yearly years of being a classic rock music aficionado. On this album released in yearly 70th, rock, soul and funk elements blending in a way that was quite ahead of its time. Stormbringer falls short of the superiority of the album Machine Head, but even so it became one of the all-time classics. The original meaning of the Stormbringer I have learned recently only. By the way, David Coverdale of Deep Purple has denied knowledge of the Stormbringer origin until shortly after recording the album. Surprise… Coincidence… ;) Anyhow, Stormbringer is a black blade in the form of a sword from fantasy stories by the author Michael Moorcock. The sword brings Chaos, and it can drink the soul from a human. Its most distinctive features are that it has a mind and will of its own, and that it feeds upon the souls of those it kills. It is pretty dramatic, eh? I think the more appropriate name for such a disaster would be – Soul-sucker or Chaos-doomsday :)

What I had in mind as a storm-bringer while naming the picture, is more like a petrel seabird. It has a different name in Russian - Burevestnik, literally a storm messenger. The ‘Uncyclopedia’ defines Existential Awakening as a realisation that after you die, all your possessions will be seized and that in 100 years, it won't matter any way. That is as funny as it is true. The existential notion of the Absurd contains the idea that there is no meaning in the world beyond the meaning that we give to it. Thus, human beings, through their own consciousness, create their own world values and determine a meaning to their own life. The existential philosophy states that because of the world meaninglessness the only one real deal is the human emotions. The existential attitude is a sense of confusion in the face of an apparently meaningless world. The higher emotional drive is the more alive you are. One of such emotions is despair. It is generally defined as a loss of hope in reaction to a breakdown in the defining qualities of one's self identity. Consequently, the more distressed one is the freer and fortunate one is to experience all the glory of realisation of true living. Ironic, is it not? The Existential World is a human subject - the acting, feeling, and living human individual!

Oh, well, who would have guess, another picture of the ship. I thought that I am done with this subject matter altogether. It turns out I am not quite yet. This is the first picture I made after two years of silence. I had some decent reasons not to work creatively for a while. Some of them are wonderful, the others are not so much, but they are rather personal so I am not going to bore you with them. I have just returned from Florida to Toronto’s snows and felt like I have got to make something. The name storm-bringer replaced the original draft version phrase - brain storm. The brain storm phrase turns out to be a too much of a cliché for the title. The expression is overused to the point of losing its original meaning and effect. The second choice was the Stormbringer.
