Human imagination is hardly an escape from reality. It is rather a way of understanding it. If you are really into art, you cannot but notice a very strange fact: modern religious art is almost non-existent. Once powerful and dominating, this trend has fallen into oblivion and is very rarely touched upon. It is certainly one of the most challenging and ambiguous territories to be on, and I can't think of a subject that is harder to get right when you’re looking for a public approval of your work.

This image was initially inspired by the Expiatory Temple of the Sagrada Familia, the yet unfinished masterpiece of the world’s most celebrated architect from Catalonia, Antonio Gaudi. His breathtaking organic modernist architecture was influenced by shapes, structures and materials found in natural world. This particular masterpiece, Sagrada Familia, has always been a source of creative inspiration for artists all over the globe. It’s eerie, shaking lines and infinite detailing makes it unique among European cathedrals. Since 1882 Sagrada Familia has been in a perpetual state of construction; and even now only one of its three façades is actually completed. Meanwhile, these three façades, representing birth, death and resurrection of Christ, are supposed to have eighteen towers symbolizing the twelve Apostles, the four Evangelists, Virgin Mary and Christ. The Spanish cathedral presented in the North-American environment of Niagara Falls gives the image an additional icy appearance that relates to a surrealistic and gothic architectural style of its renowned archetype. Frozen Expiatory Temple is a fabulous allegory of social disintegration of modern society. Yet, there is hope that what is frozen, is well preserved.

Gothic art architecture is a style that started its grand parade during middle ages. It evolved from Romanesque and was succeeded by Renaissance architecture. Its most recognizable features include a pointed arch, a ribbed vault and a flying buttress. Gothic architecture was originally meant as the official architecture of European Christendom. The primary Gothic art mediums were sculpture, panel painting, stained glass, fresco, and illuminated manuscripts.
